KTK Thermal Technologies is proud to have manufactured large bonded fin heatsinks and liquid cold plates to be used in Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch Systems (EMALS). EMALS is a carrier-based catapult launch system designed for the US Navy’s USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) and future Ford-class carriers.
EMALS differs from traditional steam catapults by using stored kinetic energy and solid-state electrical power conversion to launch aircraft from the deck of naval aircraft carriers and into flight. This technology permits a high degree of computer control, monitoring, and automation.
We manufacture large bonded fin heatsinks and liquid cold plates for the cabinets that control the magnets on the launch system. With four runways on each carrier, we have supplied over 600 heatsinks for each carrier.
